Description
Brompton Suspension Block with a lower profile for easier rolling and customizable firmness. The narrower strike plate allows you to tilt the Brompton more when rolling without scraping the suspension block. Note that this listing does not include the metal axle inside the suspension block, you can reuse the existing one.
I can make this suspension block in a variety of colours and firmness. If you are a lighter weight or casual rider, you might want a softer block for more vibration damping. If you are a heavier rider, you might need a firmer block for the same level of comfort. A firmer block also allows better transmission of power from your pedal stroke to the wheels which means better efficiency (tradeoff is a firmer ride).
For getting the most out of this customized suspension block, please let me know your weight, a picture of your existing suspension block, and whether you want a firmer or softer ride than your existing suspension block. A picture is helpful because Brompton made a variety of blocks with different firmness throughout the years.
Installation:
- Remove the old suspension block and remove the metal axle from the round strike plate. You can do this by tapping the strike plate with a hammer to pop it off, it is just friction fit.
- Tap the metal axle into the new strike plate and fit the suspension block.
- Rotate the suspension block and strike plate to align to the seatpost clamp release mechanism.
- Reuse the black washer that came off the side with the nut.
- Unfold the bike so you can properly align the strike plate before tightening the nut completely. I recommend tightening the nut until it is very difficult to rotate the suspension block.
Weight: Varies. A suspension block that is substantially firmer than the current Brompton suspension block with strike plate is 30g which is approximately the same weight as the Brompton block. A firmer block has more infill and therefore heavier (by a couple grams).
